Deephaven Beaches

Deephaven’s main attraction is beautiful Lake Minnetonka with its three deep-cut bays defining City's western border. The points and peninsulas overlooking the lake provide some of the City’s most beautiful views, and the lake furnishes endless opportunities for year‐round recreational activities. Deephaven has six public beaches for summer fun, each described in detail below.

To park in permit-only spaces near the beaches, you'll need a Deephaven Beach Parking Sticker, available May-September at City Hall.

Weekly Water Testing for Your Safety

Hennepin County collects water samples at Linwood, Sandy, Rocky, Nocomo, Deephaven Main, and Robinson’s Bay beaches weekly during the summer to make sure it is safe for swimming. The water samples are tested most Mondays unless there is a scheduled holiday. Samples are collected in the morning and sent to an outside laboratory for Escherichia coli – an indicator organismThis organism is not harmful, but it indicates that the water has a high probability of contamination by human or animal waste that may contain pathogenic organisms.

Samples are required to undergo an 18 hour incubation period.  A high result would exceed the Environmental Protection Agency’s recommended water quality standards for a single sample:

Escherichia coli colonies from the last five samples shall not exceed a geometric mean of 126/100mL, nor shall any one sample exceed 235 colonies/100mL.

Above these levels, beach water may pose a health threat to individuals and the beach will be closed and tested again the next day. If the results continue to be higher than the acceptable limit, the County will alert the City and the Public Works Department will post signs indicating that the beach is closed. The County provides an interactive map of beach closings and re-openings. The City contact regarding beach closings is Teresa Pendleton at (952) 358-9935.
