Residents in Deephaven now have the opportunity to recycle their organic waste. In accordance with the 2022 Hennepin County mandate, a drop-off dumpster will be placed just off the parking lot at Haralson Park (where the platform courts are located), across from the LRT Trail from Deephaven City Hall.
If you wish to participate in this "next step in recycling," please contact City Clerk Kimberly Lenarz-Greenwaldt at City Hall at (952) 474-4755 or kimberlyl@cityofdeephaven.org. You will be provided access to the dumpster, and educational material as to what can and cannot be included in the organics drop-off dumpster.
Accepted organics recycling items include:
- All food (fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, bones, dairy products, egg shells, pasta, beans, rice, bread, cereal, nuts and shells)
- Food-soiled paper that is not coated with plastic (pizza delivery boxes, napkins, paper towels, paper egg cartons, facial tissue)
- Certified compostable products (look for the BPI or ASTM certified logo)
- Other compostable items (coffee grounds and filters, tea bags, hair clippings, houseplants and flowers, wooden items such as chop sticks, toothpicks, and popsicle sticks)
A few key points to remember:
- Please remove all produce stickers. To make this easy, do it right when you get home from the store so no one in the family forgets!
- All food items are good to go except cooking oil. Of course, small amounts are fine, but if you use a fryer, that can be recycled at Carver County Environmental Center.
- Please do not include any pet waste, even if you have been told that it can be composted. We don’t want it in the public sites.
- Dryer lint is a no. Many years ago it was included, but with the many synthetic fabrics now, it is not compostable.
